Procesos de secularización y laicidad en Argentina: una mirada desde la articulaciónentre bioética y creencias religiosas católicas.

Resumen: En esta ponencia me propongo indagar sobre la intervención y crecientepreocupación de ciertos grupos católicos en la bioética como un desafío hacia losprocesos de secularización y laicidad en la Argentina. Para finales de la década de 1990,la Iglesia Católica toma singular interés en la bioética como disciplina y, a partir de ella,procura regular y monitorear los avances científicos en el área de la biomedicina. Losgrupos religiosos que manifiestan interés en la bioética intentan influir sobre decisionesque conciernen a la regulación en torno al inicio, la reproducción y el fin de la vida y loslímites de la ciencia. Consideran que es la Iglesia Católica, y no el Estado, la que debeestablecer las normas de lo posible en lo concerniente a la vida de los individuos. Porello, este fenómeno permite reflexionar sobre las nuevas constelaciones de la producciónreligiosa en la Modernidad latinoamericana y los procesos de secularización y laicidadcomo un ámbito de disputa, reconfiguración y transformación.Palabras clave: Bioética, Catolicismo, Laicidad, Secularización, Argentina

Abstract: This paper will analyze the intervention and growing concern of Catholic groups in Bioethics as a challenge to the process of secularization and laïcité inArgentina. At the end of the 1990s, the Catholic Church gains interest in bioethics as adiscipline because it allows the regulation and monitoring of scientific developments in biomedicine. The religious groups that are interested in bioethics try to influence on decisions about the regulation of the beginning, reproduction, end of life and the limits to Science. They believe that the Catholic Church, and not the State, should establish the norms that regulate the life of the individuals. That is why this phenomenon allows thinking over the new constellations of the religious production in the Latin-AmericanModernity and the process of secularization and laïcité as a space of dispute,reconfiguration and transformation.Key words: Bioethics, Catholicism, laïcité, secularization, Argentina
